ÂFord F-450: Engine Power and Performance
The 2021 Ford F-450 comes out of the gate with pure power. The standard engine is a 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 Turbo Diesel that puts out a whopping 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. This is the most powerful engine available for the F-450.
The second option is still impressive. The available 7.3L V8 engine is powered by gas instead of diesel and provides 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The third available option is also a gas engine: a 6.2L Flex Fuel V8. This motor produces 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
These three engines are paired with a TorqShift® 10-speed SelectShift Automatic® transmission with five selectable drive modes:
- Normal
- Slippery
- Tow/Haul
- Eco
- Deep Sand/Snow
If you opt for the available Tremor Off-Road Package, there is a Rock Crawl mode to help you navigate rugged terrain.
Ford F-450: Towing and Payload Capacity
The 2021 F-450 is an impressive machine, with the towing capacity to tackle a variety of jobs. When properly equipped, this vehicle has a maximum towing capacity of 37,000 pounds.
With this much towing capacity, you can tow just about anything, like:
- Large horse trailer
- Construction equipment
- Multi-car trailer
- Extra-large RV
While the towing capacity is impressive, the payload capacity of the F-450 measures up, too. No part of the truck slacks off when you need to get the job done. The maximum payload capacity comes to 6,210 pounds when properly equipped. Haul equipment you don't need a trailer for or load up on concrete or bricks and head to the worksite.
Ford F-450: Tech to Enhance the Ride
On top of the impressive power and towing capacity of the F-450, this truck has plenty of tech to help you get the job done.
To help you tow, the vehicle has a standard integrated trailer brake controller that links your truck and trailer's brakes for seamless braking. This is combined with the standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ and Trailer Sway Control to help keep your truck safe and stable as you drive.
There are also plenty of safety features to supplement your driving from the Ford Co-Pilot360â„¢ tech suite.
One such feature is the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Trailer Coverage. With this system, your truck keeps an eye out while changing lanes and will let you know if a vehicle is in your or your trailer's blind spot.
The Ford F-450 also has an available Ultimate Trailer Tow Camera System with Pro Trailer Backup Assistâ„¢ that offers five features to give you an enhanced towing experience:
- Pro Trailer Backup Assistâ„¢
- Trailer Reverse Guidance
- 180/360-degree cameras
- Customer-placed camera
- Center high-mount stop lamp camera
