Between the 2017 Ford Focus and 2017 Nissan Sentra, drivers can save a great deal of fuel without having to sacrifice the interior comfort and performance of a larger vehicle. But for all the similarities they may share, significant differences set these cars apart. Our team at Richmond Ford Lincoln put together this comparison for our customers in the Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland areas, so when you go looking for your next compact car, you'll know exactly where to start.

2017 Ford Focus Safety vs 2017 Nissan Sentra Safety

When many drivers begin their search for a new vehicle, the first thing they're looking for is safety. With a hardy frame and Safety Canopy® airbag system, drivers of the Ford Focus can rest assured they'll be safe. That's why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) granted the 2017 Ford Focus a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating.

The Safety Canopy® is designed to protect vehicle occupants using first- and second-row side-curtain airbags that cocoon passengers in the event of a collision. Many preventative safety technologies are also in place, such as the AdvanceTrac® Electronic Stability Control with an Anti-Lock Brake System. AdvanceTrac® maximizes traction and control on even the most unfavorable road conditions. Torque Vectoring Control further stabilizes your Focus and optimizes engine output.

The 2017 Nissan Sentra only earns a 4-Star Overall Safety Rating from the NHTSA, making it a riskier choice. Though it includes many of the features of the Focus, like Traction Control and Vehicle Dynamic Control, these features offer less comprehensive support than the Safety Canopy® or AdvanceTrac® systems found in the competition.

Performance Specifications

A variety of driver assistance features work in tandem with the 2.0L Ti-VCT engine in the 2017 Ford Focus. This 4-cylinder includes Ford's trademark Variable Camshaft Timing, which was designed to enhance engine output and reduce carbon emissions with more ease than the competitor's fixed camshaft. Thanks to this design, the Focus can generate 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, all without increasing your carbon footprint. A Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle version is also available.

Drivers have the option to choose a 6-speed PowerShift semi-automatic transmission. PowerShift has been proven to increase vehicle efficiency up to 10% more than a conventional transmission, such as you would find in the Nissan Sentra.

The Sentra comes equipped with a standard 1.8L 4-cylinder engine, that can only produce 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, Sentra drivers will be left in the dust when competing with the power of the Ford Focus.

Convenient Technologies

The 2017 Ford Focus offers many cabin features that'll increase the comfort of its occupants. A SYNC® enhanced voice recognition communication and entertainment system allows drivers to control their music on a Bluetooth®-enabled device with only the sound of their voice. Available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it easy to connect to phones and make calls. Devices can then be charged with the available two smart charging USB ports.

Both the Focus and the Sentra come with an MP3-capable 4-speaker audio system, which can be controlled with LCD displays. However, the Sentra includes fewer charging ports and doesn't have access to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, an absence that can complicate the hands-free phone system.

2017 Ford Focus vs 2017 Nissan Sentra Comparison

Despite the similarities that bring them together, performance, safety, and technology truly set the 2017 Ford Focus and the 2017 Nissan Sentra apart.
