December has just begun and the weather has been getting colder. You need to make sure your vehicle is prepared for the upcoming winter months. Here are some handy tips on how to prepare for the cold:

  1. Inspect Your Tires - When the temperature drops, so does your tire pressure. Be sure to monitor your tire pressure and adjust when needed. It's also good to check your tire condition to ensure that they have good traction to handle icy roads.
  2. Test Your Battery - Colder weather can lead to battery performance issues down the road. Parking your car in a garage or parking deck can keep it away from the more freezing temperatures. Don't forget to always have some jumper cables handy in case you need your battery kick-started.
  3. Look For Windshield Cracks - Inspect your car's windshield for cracks, dings and chips. Lower temperatures increase the chances of these cracks worsening. Get any cracks in your windshield looked at by an expert and repaired if needed.
  4. Check Your Lights - The winter season can affect your visibility in many ways. The days are short and there's an increased chance of snow and fog. Check your headlights, brake lights and turn signal lights so that you can see and other drivers on the road can see you.
  5. Create a Winter Kit - Prepare for the worst and create a winter supply kit to leave in your trunk. Include items such as flashlights, road flares, a first-aid kit, blankets, warm clothes, an ice scraper and snacks.
