When deciding on the right SUV for your family trips, you'll want to consider the safety features to ensure that everyone is well-protected during your travels. The Ford Explorer safety features offer a great deal of protection for all the passengers inside the cabin.
At Richmond Ford Lincoln, we're here to give our friends in Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland, VA, the important details to get a better idea of the levels of protection offered by the Ford Explorer.
Ford Explorer Active Safety Features
The Ford Explorer has an anti-lock braking system that incorporates a few notable features to assist you when it comes to emergency braking. These features can detect an issue on the road while you're driving, which will cause them to automatically engage to help prevent an accident from occurring…
- AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™: This feature can detect wheel lift, which will result in the vehicle providing selective braking to the wheels firmly on the ground to help prevent a rollover.
- Individual Tire Pressure Monitoring System:Â Gives you a heads-up if one of your tires begins to fall below the recommended PSI level.
Ford Explorer Passive Safety Features
The Explorer includes a variety of airbags to provide protection and cushioning for the passengers inside in the event of a collision.
The front airbags are advanced, so they will actively measure the force of collision and adjust the inflation pressure to provide enough cushion based on the severity of the crash.
The Explorer includes:
- Dual-stage front airbags, front-seat side airbags, driver's knee airbag, and Safety Canopy® System (3-row side-curtain airbags)
- SOS Post-Crash Alert Systemâ„¢:Â This feature activates after a collision and turns on the hazard lights/interior lights and sounds the horn repeatedly.
Ford Co-Pilot360â„¢ Driver-Assisting Features
The Ford Explorer also includes the Ford Co-Pilot360™ driver-assisting technologies. Included in this suite of features is BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System), which helps you stay aware of the vehicles in your blind spots.
The Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking can help you avoid a collision. It uses exterior sensors to detect a possible collision based on the speed of your vehicle and proximity to the vehicle ahead. It will then use brake pressure to reduce the severity of a crash or avoid it altogether.
A Handy Parking Aid
Meshing safety with convenience, the Ford Explorer has an available Active Park Assist 2.0 feature.
This system is especially handy for those in urban areas who have to park in tight, street-side spaces. With this system, you merely line your Explorer up with a perpendicular or parallel parking spot, shift to neutral, then hold the Active Park Assist button. From there, your Explorer will automatically guide itself into the proper position! Â
