What Is Window Tinting?
Window tinting is the process of darkening your vehicle's windows by applying a thin film to the car's glass. It can add a look of mystery and power to your ride while giving you plenty of other benefits, which we'll tackle below.
There are many different options for window tinting, and our team can help you choose the right one for your ride. Some of this depends on state regulations, while other considerations can be purely aesthetic.
Common types of window tinting are:
- Dyed window tint
- Metallic window tint
- Carbon tint film
- Ceramic window tint
Steps to Window Tinting
There are four basic steps to applying window tinting. We'll take you through it, so you know what to expect when we work on your car.
The steps are as follows:
- Step 1: Prep the Windows
- Step 2: Measure and Fit
- Step 3: Apply the Tint
- Step 4: Cure and Clean Up
Step 1: Prep the Windows
You'll sit down with our team and pick out the tint that you want for your windows. Then, our team will begin to prep your windows to apply the tint.
Step 2: Measure and Fit
We'll measure the widow and fit it to install the tint. Part of this process might depend on which tint you choose, since some window tints come precut and some don't.
Step 3: Apply the Tint
We'll install the tint! Window tints are typically applied to the inside of the window. We'll give you an estimate of how long this might take.
Step 4: Cure and Clean Up
We'll go over our tint installation to ensure it looks nice, clean, and has cured and stuck to your window correctly. Then, we'll go over some post-installation instructions with you.
Benefits of Window Tinting
Tinting your windows provides many benefits, from keeping the interior cool and protected to offering privacy. Improve the looks of your new ride while protecting the inside! Richmond Ford does window tint in-house, too.
Window tints can keep the sunlight out of your vehicle. This has a few different benefits, like:
- Keeping your vehicle's cabin cool
- Protecting your upholstery
- Keeping UV rays at bay
When the sun enters your cabin in the summer, it heats the interior of your vehicle. Keeping the sun out means a cooler car.
On top of that, sunlight can fade, warp, and even discolor the upholstery in your automobile. Window tints keep your seats in great shape and your car looking good. Since window tint keeps out sunlight, that means it can also keep out UV rays. Your skin won't burn on long, sunny drives!
Another practical benefit is that window tinting prevents people from seeing inside your vehicle. That means passersby can't spot valuables in your car.
