A Look at Standard Safety Features
Safety should be a standard trait in the sedan you're hoping to secure. With the evolution of driver-assistance technology, the Ford Fusion offers a host of systems on the base trim, while the Nissan Altima requires you to select a specific package.
If you've driven any recent Ford models, you may already be aware of Ford Co-Pilot360â„¢ technology. The setup, which is standard for the Fusion, includes the following suite of technologies:
- Lane-Keeping system
- Rear View Camera
- Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
- BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert

It's not that the Nissan Altima neglects these useful driver-assistance technologies, it just requires more commitment on your end to have them featured in the car.
Selecting the Performance You Want
If you want efficiency for commuting purposes or power for weekend thrills, it's the Ford Fusion that you shoulder consider. The Fusion comes with a wider range of performance options than the Nissan Altima.
Here's the Fusion engine lineup:
- 2.5L engine
- 1.5L engine
- 2.0L engine
- 2.0L hybrid engine
- 2.0L plug-in hybrid engine
The variety you have to select from leads to tremendous peaks of efficiency and power. The 2.0L motor generates 275 lb-ft of torque, while the plug-in hybrid reaches an EPA-estimated 109 city/97 highway MPGe.

For the Altima, only two engines are available. The highest fuel economy you can garner is an EPA-estimated 28 city/39 highway MPG, while the torque peaks at 273 lb-ft.
Passenger Space for You and Your Guests
Whether you're behind the wheel or settled into the second row, traits like legroom and headroom are appreciated. While similar, the Ford Fusion offers a roomier interior than the Nissan Altima.

The headroom of the Altima is 39.2 inches in the front and 36.9 inches in the second row. For the Fusion, those same headroom measurements check in at 39.2 inches up front and 37.8 inches in the rear.
It's the same for legroom. The Fusion offers 44.3 inches up front and 38.3 inches in back, while the Altima provides 43.8 inches and 35.2 inches in the front and rear, respectively.
