Ford Escape Towing Capacity

At Richmond Ford Lincoln, we've helped many of our friends and neighbors throughout Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland, VA, when they were trying to find the right car.

The Ford Escape is one of the most asked about models on our lot, and drivers want to know a variety of information about it. However, one of the most common aspects that we're asked about is the Ford Escape towing capacity. Our friends want to know that this compact SUV can deliver on all fronts.

We will give you some important information that you'll need to know to decide on this compact SUV. We'll show you the different engine options, the total cargo and cabin space, and-of course-the towing capacity.

By reading this guide, you'll determine if the 2022 Escape has the abilities you're looking for with your next automobile.

Ford Escape Engine Options & Performance

The 2022 Ford Escape comes standard with a 1.5L EcoBoost® engine. You may want to consider additional options to increase the vehicle's overall power and abilities.

Each gas engine option is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This includes an available 2.0L EcoBoost® with Auto Start-Stop Technology, which provides additional fuel-efficiency features.

Here's a quick list of all the engine options for the Escape:

  • The 2.5L Hybrid delivers 200 total system horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 2.5L Plug-In Hybrid offers 221 total system horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 1.5L EcoBoost® provides 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque.
  • The 2.0L EcoBoost® delivers the most output with 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

The Escape has plenty of performance options to help make your drives more enjoyable. This includes standard Curve Control, which monitors how fast you're going and slows the vehicle down if you're hitting a curve too quickly.

With four engine options, the Escape provides versatility and flexibility. Its flexibility doesn't stop at its engines, either.

While the vehicle comes standard in front-wheel drive, it offers All-Wheel Drive with AWD Disconnect. AWD Disconnect helps you save on fuel because your Escape will be able to sense when AWD is needed and not needed. It can then switch off AWD when it isn't required.

Maximum Towing Capacities

The Escape isn't the strongest model in the Ford lineup. However, not every family wants to squeeze into a heavy-duty pickup when they're heading out on a road trip or a weekend getaway.

The 2022 Escape towing capacity varies, depending on how you outfit your SUV and which engine you choose:

  • The 2.0L EcoBoost® with AWD can effectively tow 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.
  • The 2.5L Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid engines bring some impressive towing abilities to the table, with a maximum capacity of 1,500 pounds when properly equipped.

With these towing capacities, you get quite a lot of flexibility in terms of what you can tow.

If you like spending your days on the water, the Escape can tow a lightweight boat or jet skis. The vehicle can also handle small camping trailers, a pair of motorcycles, or ATVs.

Total Cargo & Cabin Space

When it comes to cargo space, the Ford Escape provides 104 cubic feet that's suitable for five passengers. Plus, the rear features a total 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space when all seats are occupied.

When you put the 60/40 split-fold rear seats down, you can increase the total cargo area to 65.4 cubic feet-nearly doubling the amount of space for your cargo.

The Escape also features ample space for passengers:

  • Front passengers can get comfy with 40 inches of headroom and 42.4 inches of legroom.
  • Rear passengers have 39.3 inches of headroom and 40.7 inches of legroom to spread out.

There is also plenty of wiggle room, so no one feels squashed. The front row offers 55.2 inches of hip room, while the second row has almost as much, with 53.3 inches of hip room.

Broad-shouldered passengers will also be comfortable in the front or the back, with 57.6 inches of shoulder room in the front and 56 inches in the back.

Ford Escape Safety & Driver-Assisting Features

Whether you're towing a trailer and heading off on an adventure with the whole family or just running some errands on the weekend, the Escape can help keep you safe with its driver-assisting and safety features.

Many of these features are in the Ford Co-Pilot360™ technology suite and include…

  • Rear View Camera: See obstacles or vehicles behind you as you pull out of a driveway or parking space. You can also use the camera to get a rough idea of how you need to reverse to hook up a trailer.

  • Lane-Keeping System: While you're on the highway, this system keeps an eye on your position within your lane. The system will warn you if you begin to drift unintentionally out of your lane.

  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps: These headlamps keep an eye on the light conditions and switch on the high beams when you need them. If there is oncoming traffic, the headlamps switch to low beams.

To help you always find your way around, the Escape offers a Voice-Activated Touchscreen Navigation System with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link®. Request directions to your next destination with the sound of your voice so that you don't have to take your hands off the wheel.

Another helpful standard feature in the Ford Co-Pilot360™ repertoire is the BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert. When you're on the highway and going to change lanes, this system keeps an eye on your blind spots. If there is a vehicle in your blind spot, your Escape will warn you.
