Ford Explorer Trim Levels

When you're choosing the Ford Explorer that complements your day-to-day lifestyle around Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland, you'll have several choices. Ford continues to develop unique trim levels that make it simple to get the features and performance you want. To give our friends in the local community a rundown of what to expect, we thought we'd write this in-depth 2020 Ford Explorer trim levels guide.

The 2020 Ford Explorer comes in four available trim levels: XLT, Limited, ST and Platinum. While each trim for the Ford Explorer delivers reliability and versatility, there are unique features for you to consider, from styling and performance systems to safety technology!

2020 Ford Explorer XLT

The 2020 Ford Explorer XLT is the standard model but comes loaded with high-end features and technology.

For instance, the Intelligent 4WD system that guides the SUV works diligently to optimize both the powertrain and braking systems. So, as you move across slippery road surfaces, the 4WD system will respond to provide more traction.

Technology is further embedded into the standard trim level with features like the SecuriCode™ Keyless Entry Keypad that gives you the ability to unlock the car from a keypad found on the door.

2020 Ford Explorer Limited

Technology continues to abound in the Limited trim level and its purpose is to make the Ford Explorer more capable and convenient for everyday use.

Whether you're moving a kid into college or simply picking up groceries from the store, the hands-free, foot-activated liftgate will prove to be a helpful feature. As for navigating off-road trails, you'll love the Terrain Management System™, which allows you to select from the following drive modes:

  • Normal
  • Trail
  • Deep Snow/Sand
  • Slippery
  • Sport
  • Tow/Haul
  • Eco

2020 Ford Explorer ST

The ST trim levels are becoming a more common sight throughout Ford trim lineups. The ST is a performance variant of the regular vehicle, making the Ford Explorer ST a model that emphasizes driver enjoyment from behind the wheel.

To do this, the standard engine, which is a 2.3L 4-cylinder that produces up to 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, is swapped out for a 3.0L V6. The 3.0L V6 generates up to 365 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque-as it does in the Ford Explorer Platinum-but it churns out 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque in the ST trim. All that strength allows the SUV to hit a top speed of 143 MPH.

The ST also comes with unique interior styling featuring leather seating surfaces with micro-perforation and City Silver accent stitching that makes its way throughout the cabin.

2020 Ford Explorer Platinum

The fully loaded Ford Explorer Platinum is the final trim level we'll discuss-a model that comes with all the amenities you'd expect of a high-level SUV.

The twin-panel moonroof extends from the first row into the second row, giving each passenger a great view. There's also the B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen, which includes a 14-speaker setup.
