Ford Escape vs. Hyundai Santa Fe

Our team at Richmond Ford Lincoln wrote this Ford Escape vs. Hyundai Santa Fe comparison for our drivers in Richmond, Mechanicsville, Ashland, and the surrounding communities. Why? Well, because they're both such incredible compact SUVs. We see tons of positive aspects in each, and we'd like to share them with you. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our team today.

Interior Passenger Dimensions: Ford Escape vs Hyundai Santa Fe

One of the first things that drivers look for in a compact SUV is passenger space. After all, although you want it to be compact, you don't want it to be so compact that you can't even relax while you're driving!

Luckily, the 2018 Ford Escape doesn't present this problem.  With a maximum passenger capacity of up to five occupants and a maximum cargo capacity of up to 66.4 cubic feet (with all the seats stowed), it's spacious.

Front-row passengers of the 2018 Escape can enjoy up to 40.4 inches of headroom, 41.6 inches of legroom, 56.6 inches of shoulder room, and 53.3 inches of hip room; back-row passengers can enjoy up to 39.2 inches of headroom, 35.6 inches of legroom, 55.9 inches of shoulder room, and 49.1 inches of hip room.

On the other hand, the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe isn't quite as impressive. We're only working with 39.9 inches of front headroom and 41.3 inches of front legroom. That's surely nothing to write home over!

Ultimate Peace of Mind: Safety Systems

Furthermore, the 2018 Escape comes equipped with a suite of intelligent safety features that will leave you sleeping well at night, certain that your entire family is as safe as possible on the road. Some of these features include:

  • Auto High-Beam Headlights
  • The Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert (BLIS®)
  • The Lane-Keeping System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning with Brake Support
  • Enhanced Active Park Assist

Perhaps it's all these systems-and quite a few others-that won the 2018 Ford Escape its prestigious 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration1. What a helpful reassurance!

While the 2018 Santa Fe comes with a few comparable safety features (including Automatic Emergency Braking, which is similar to Ford's Brake Support function), we don't have nearly as much faith in them.

2018 Escape vs 2018 Santa Fe: Engine Power

Last, but certainly not least, we'll briefly cover the possibilities that come with each compact SUV's major engine options. For the Ford Escape, you can choose between a 2.5L I-4 (165 horsepower), a 1.5L EcoBoost®, and a 2.0L Ecoboost® (245 horsepower).

As for the Hyundai Santa Fe, you can pay for a 3.3L GDI DOHC 24-Valve engine.
