The Ford Escape has seen many changes over the years, yet it always balances practicality, safety, and reliability. Many around Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland, VA, may be unfamiliar with the 2021 model changes, so our Richmond Ford Lincoln team developed this 2021 Ford Escape review.

We'll be providing you with the lowdown on some key features, such as performance and technology. There are many variations of the Escape, too, with trims, packages, and accessories all needing to be considered. If any Escape questions pop up, just give our helpful staff a call!

Plenty of Engine Options

The Ford Escape prides itself on versatility more than anything else. This versatility is readily apparent when looking at the performance, as the SUV offers four unique powerplants to pick from.

A punchy little 1.5L engine can produce 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. If you want, you can step up to the larger, more powerful 2.0L 4-cylinder, which makes 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, there's the 2.5L hybrid option that produces 200 total system horsepower. If your goal is to extract as much fuel as possible from each fill-up, then you'd want to go with this engine. According to EPA estimates, the 2.5L hybrid returns 44 city/37 highway MPG.

A few other decisions to be made regarding performance include front-wheel drive or available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, plus either an 8-speed automatic transmission or an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission.

Safety & Infotainment Technology

The Escape has always been a savvy technological SUV, yet the 2021 version ramps up the intuitiveness even further. For safety or entertainment, this Escape is working for you.

Added into the available Ford Co-Pilot360â„¢ Assist+ suite is Intelligent Adaptative Cruise Control with Speed Sign Recognition. The system is not only capable of identifying the speed limit of the road you're currently on, but it can automatically adjust the speed of your Escape to keep you in a safe spot behind vehicles in front of you. A plethora of other systems exist within Ford Co-Pilot360â„¢ Assist+, all of which are designed to make your daily travels easier and safer.

As for the interior, the infotainment system has been further refined to make accessing applications, navigation, and phone calls or text messages easier. It still all centers around the SYNC® 3 infotainment system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and even Waze navigation.

Audiophiles will especially enjoy the optional 10-speaker B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen.
