For the 2020 model year, the Ford Escape has been redesigned with new looks and a new and more efficient powertrain option. Richmond Ford Lincoln is always looking out for our friends around Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland, so we thought we'd put together this 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid review. There's a handful of key traits we'll be touching on, including the hybrid and plug-in engine options, the interior and exterior styling redesigns, and the way modern technology influences the SUV.

2020 Ford Escape Efficiency
The 2020 Ford Escape offers a hybrid engine to improve efficiency and it also offers a plug-in engine that introduces aspects of electric power.
We'll start with the hybrid motor, which is a 2.5L Atkinson-Cycle 4-cylinder mated to an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. To help get the hybrid motor going, there's an 88kW electric motor that utilizes a lithium-ion, liquid-cooled battery positioned below the second-row seats.
The alternative high-efficiency engine is the plug-in 2.5L Atkinson-Cycle 4-cylinder. This particular motor has a Level 1/Level 2 AC charging port. When using the 110-volt Level 1 charger, it will take between 10 and 11 hours to get the battery up to full charge. However, the 240-volt Level 2 charger improves charging time for full capacity to just 3.5 hours.
Interior & Exterior Styling
You'll quickly notice the newly shaped body and unique grille and front fascia of the 2020 Ford Escape. The redesign has received high praise from reviewers and motorists alike, giving the SUV an air of sophistication and modernity.
For the exterior, there are new styling packages available as well, such as the SE Sport Premium package, which introduces:
- 19-inch machined-face aluminum wheels with Ebony-painted pockets
- Black roof-rack rails
- Panoramic Vista Roof®, capable of tilting up or opening fully while also introducing a fixed rear skylight
The interior of the 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid is simple and engaging. For example, there's the new rotary gear shift dial that takes up much less space than traditional gear shifters, providing more room for the front passenger and driver. Depending on the trim and package you select, you'll also find high-quality materials throughout, such as leather and wood.
Technology to Keep You Safe
In addition to the efficiency of the hybrid engines, the 2020 Ford Escape makes for a stellar commuter model because of the driver-assistance safety technology.
Many of the features included come from the Ford Co-Pilot360â„¢ Technology, such as:
- BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert
- Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
- Auto High-Beam Headlamps
- Lane-Keeping System
- Rear View Camera
See How the 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Performs on the Road!
While efficiency is the end goal of the 2020 Ford Escape hybrid model, it'll still provide plenty of pep around Richmond, Mechanicsville, and Ashland. If you want to get behind the wheel for yourself, contact us at Richmond Ford Lincoln!
